Newman New CEO of Transocean
Transocean Ltd. said that Robert L. Long will retire as CEO in the first quarter of 2010. The Board of Directors has named Steven L. Newman, currently President and Chief Operating Officer, to succeed Mr. Long upon his retirement as CEO. Newman has served as President and COO since May 2008. He previously served in various senior management roles, including Executive Vice President of Performance; Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Information Process Solutions, and Treasury; and Vice President of Performance and Technology.
Whitworth Appointed CEO
GL in the Americas region and will move the regional office from Mexico City to Houston, TX, underlining the importance of the tanker market. Coyne comes from General Maritime Management, where he worked as Vice President Maritime Compliance, Quality, Global Crewing, Ship Vetting and Operations.
Burroughs Manager of BALPURE
Jonathan Whitworth was appointed CEO of Washington Marine Group. Whitworth has varied background in the shipping industry and joins Washington Marine Group with over 20 years of seagoing, shore side, strategic planning, management, and leadership experience. After graduating from the Texas Maritime Academy, Jonathan sailed for six years as an officer aboard tankers and chemical carriers in the international market. He also still holds an unlimited chief mate's license, and a 1600-ton captain's license. After completing his MBA at the University of North Texas, Jonathan came ashore and held a number of management positions at ExxonMobil and Teekay Shipping. He later became CEO of Maritrans Inc., the largest publicly held tug/barge and tanker operator in the US Jones Act trade. Maritrans was sold to Overseas Shipholding Group of New York, in 2006, and Jonathan was retained as President to continue the strategic plan created at Maritrans.
GL Appoints Coyne
Severn Trent De Nora named William Burroughs as manager of its BALPURE ballast water treatment product line. Burroughs will be responsible for planning, organizing, integrating and expanding the BALPURE line. In addition to serving his country as a lieutenant in the United States Navy's submarine force, he has spent more than 25 years in positions of increasing responsibility in engineering management, project management, industrial design, construction supervision and project engineering.
ABS Promotes Ballard
ABS veteran surveyor Robert (Bob) Ballard has been named to the position of Assistant Chief Surveyor (ACS) for Naval Programs, a position created last year by the class society to better coordinate the provisions of the specialty survey services demanded by increased naval activity. Since the introduction of its Rules for Building and Classing Naval Vessels (NVRs) ABS has seen a growing volume of newbuilding activity to ABS class standards by the US Navy. Ballard will oversee the training of ABS survey staff in naval procedures and survey techniques.
