The Modern Bridge
Modern bridge technology has evolved far past a single component or system By Greg Trauthwein
The bridge on Pacific Glacier, outfitted by Marine Technologies. The Pacific Glacier was built at Todd Shipyard in Seattle as a supply boat. It was redesigned by Fisker Strand & Eldoy and rebuilt by Mjellem & Karlsen in Norway in 1988. The 3120 gt vessel measures 276 ft. long, and is powered by a pair of 3300 hp Bergen diesels, with a pair of 450 hp Scania auxiliary diesel engines. This ship sustained fire damaged to the upper decks, including the bridge, in early 2008, the event which led to Marine Technologies supplying its IBS solution to this vessel. 20 Maritime Reporter & Engineering News
