NEWS PEOPLE & COMPANY NEWS Obituary: Boyd E. `Butch' King VT Halter Marine announced the loss of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brigadier General Boyd E. King, USA (Ret.) who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the company's headquarters in Pascagoula, Miss. BG (Ret) Boyd King joined VT Halter Marine on December 16, 2002, as CEO. Before his appointment at VTHM, King was a retired Brigadier General with a 35-year career in the U.S. Army, culminating in his appointment as Director of Transportation, Energy and Troop Support on the Arm Staff. He was also a graduate of the Army War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. BG (Ret) King served VT Halter Marine as its CEO for over six years since December 2002. King began rebuilding VT Halter Marine, Inc. one contract at a time. He took the helm of the new company with a backlog of contracts which were either revitalized or renegotiated to put it on solid footing once again. Since Hurricane Katrina, King, along with VTHM's Senior Management, were responsible for securing commercial and government contracts and currently VTHM has a construction backlog through 2013. In the interim, VT Halter Marine will be managed by Mr. William (Bill) E. Skinner, Chief Operating Officer (COO), with the support of the management team. AWO Elects New Chairman, Vice Chairman The members of the American Waterways Operators (AWO) elected Timothy J. Casey (top) as Chairman and George Foster (bottom) as Vice Chairman. Casey is President & CEO of K-Sea Transportation Corp., headquartered in East Brunswick, NJ, and served as vice chairman for the past year. Foster is President of JB Marine Service, Inc., headquartered in St. Louis. Working in liner management and agency operations, he represented P&O in the UK, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Australia. In 2004 he became head of NYK Line's European Container activities based in London. Most recently he was responsible for CMA CGM's UK based operations, involving liner, agency and technical management responsibilities. Vinyard Elected Chair of SCA The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) announced that Herschel Vinyard, vice president at Atlantic Marine Holding Company, has been elected its new chair. Vinyard takes the leadership role of the Council after two successful years that saw increased membership and an expansion of services provided by the SCA under the chairmanship of Steve Welch, CEO and President of Todd Pacific Shipyards. Chris Bollinger, executive vice president of Bollinger Shipyards, was elected to the position of vice-chair. The elections occurred during the Council's annual Spring General Membership Meeting, held April 27 - 29, in Washington, DC. Steinberg Retires from IPS Industrial Power Systems, Inc. (IPS) announced the retirement of Jerry Steinberg, after almost 16 years with the company as its Vice President Sales & Marketing. Jerry is being replaced by Michael Phelan as its new Director of Sales & Marketing. IPS designs and builds electrical controls, switchgear and automation systems for marine and industrial applications. Frazier Joings ShipConstructor ShipConstructor Software announced that John P. Frazier has joined the ShipConstructor Team as Technical Account Manager. Frazier is coming from Autodesk where he worked in the roles of Technical Consultant and Technical Account Manager. In these functions worked with Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Northrop Grumman Newport News, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard as well as Boeing. Maritime Reporter & Engineering News Boardley Named LR Director 2 Tom Boardley assumes responsibility for Lloyd's Register's global marine activities, as Marine Director. He succeeds Alan Gavin. He has worked in the shipping industry since graduation from university in 1978 when he joined P&O. 48
