Keppel's Marine Technology Development (MTD) did, in 2006, a design of a 28,000 dwt ice class Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit for Lukoil Nizhnevolzhskneft. When completed, the vessel will be deployed in the Yuri Korchagin Field in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. The FSO, valued at some US$88m, will be the first FSO built in Singapore. The FSO can operate in minus 20 deg.C in ice thickness 60cm thick and has a double bottom and double sides. MTD recently also built an icebreaker and an icebreaking supply vessel for Lukoil, the first such vessels by Keppel. Named Toboy and Varandey, they were delivered by Keppel Singmarine in August and November last year. They are designed to RS class for assisting tankers at Lukoil's (and ConocoPhillips') Varandei offshore offloading terminal in the Barents Sea. The 81.6m x 18.5m x 9.1m diesel-electric multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel Toboy has a propulsion power of 2x5,200kW and the 100m x 21.7m x 10.5m multipurpose icebreaker Varandey has a propulsion power of 2x8,400kW. (Continued on page 87) ENSCO 8500, the first semi of ENSCO 8500 Series, was delivered by Keppel FELS last fall. The latest order placed by ENSCO International Incorporated, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, in June last year, was for the sixth such deepwater rig for delivery in the first half of 2012.
