Oslo's New Fireboat Oslo City's Fire Department in Norway has taken delivery of a new Fire Boat, MS Sjosproyt. Built by HemnesMek AS this rapid response aluminum fire and rescue craft measures 15 x 4.5 m. Powered by triple Volvo Penta D9500 hp engines it drives the triple UltraJet 377 waterjets through ZF305-2 gearboxes. To optimize vessel control during fire fighting and ambulance rescue duties, it uses the center Volvo engine to run an 8000 liter fire pump mounted foreward, while the two outer jets are used for maneuvering the boat into position. In addition two Rudberg water cannons are fitted pumping 3000 l/min. The jet and engine combination 3200-hp Tug from China The Guangzhou Panyuqu Yuefeng Ship Building & Repairing Facility is preparing to deliver a 118-ft. (36-m) ocean-towing tug. A five-meter molded depth on a 34.5-ft. (10.5-m) beam allows for a spacious engine room to accommodate the tug's twin Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines. The V-16 cylinder engines produce 1600 hp each at 1800 rpm and turn into Reintjes WAF664L gears. That power will give the tug a 12-knot speed and a 40-ton bollard pull. The BV-classed vessel, Tiong Woon Ocean 18, will have accommoda- tion for nine crewmembers. It is fitted with a pair of Cummins QSM11-powered 240 kW generators. The tug is also fitted with an HRP bow thruster. Electronics include JRC radios and electronics. On deck a Marine Equipment double drum waterfall winch is fitted with a spooling gear. (Photo Credit: Tore M. Furuhatt) provides high thrust to push the vessels to a top speed of 36 knots enabling it to get to emergency areas quickly and safely. Fully loaded the vessel achieves 35 knots. The Ultra Dynamics JetMaster joystick control system controls steering and reverse, combined with a Kobelt 6518 triple lever control head all provide excellent maneuverability and fine control of the vessel at all speeds, including zero speed - holding station for fine control of the water pumps. The new fireboat will operate around the City of Oslo, and surrounding Fjords and Islands protecting the local community with its fire fighting, rescue and emergency medical services.
