News New Dutch Navy Landing Craft Visser Den Helder a member of the Damen Shipyards group of companies, selected UltraJet 410 waterjets for their next generation of Landing Craft Vehicles Personnel (LCVP), for the Royal Netherlands Navy. The 16m aluminum landing craft is powered by Volvo Penta D9-575 diesel engines coupled to UltraJet 410 waterjets via ZF305-2 transmissions. Their primary use will be for amphibious operations with the landing platform docks of the RNLM, HNLMS Rotterdam and HNLMS Johan de Witt to transport vehicles such as Landrovers, BV206s and up to 35 troops between LPD and beachhead. The landing craft will be used for transporting troops and vehicles. A key requirement of the vessel was to easily beach and reverse off again. With the UltraJet waterjet intakes flush with the MDH HEADSET Fits underneath most helmets including PASGT, MICH and ACH PORTABLE TRANSCEIVER For wireless, hands-free communication CREW CONNECTION POINT Wired access & power to support ANR headwear and charge portable transceivers hull bottom, the craft can be beached without damage to the propulsion system. An UltraJet twin levered JetMaster reverse system, plus an electronic helm control system is fitted providing exceptional maneuverability whether at high or low speeds, including holding station during landing operations. The landing craft is also fully equipped for on board fire fighting and rescue work. A total of 12 boats will be built. The report was hampered in that the pilot surrendered his license shortly after the incident and the on-going criminal investigation made various possible witnesses unavailable. Nevertheless, the report concluded that pilot misconduct was a factor in the allision. Among other things, the pilot failed to utilize all available resources prior to getting underway; failed to clearly communicate with the master; failed to exercise sound judgment when he lost confidence in the radar in reduced visibility; and failed to utilize all available resources before committing the ship to its transit under the Bay Bridge.
