In August 2006, General Dynamics NASSCO received a $1 billion contract from U.S. Shipping Partners to build the nine ships, which are designed to carry petroleum and chemical products in Jones Act trade between U.S. ports. The ships will be double-hulled, 183 meters (600.4 feet) in length and can carry cargo weighing up to 49,000 tons. The dry bulk specialist said that net profit totaled $211.2m in the second quarter. The firm, which reported a small loss in the first quarter, said its full first half result was 133.4 million euros, down from 148.2 million euros in the same period of last year. CMB's Q2 Up 144% Belgian shipping group CMB reported a 144 percent rise in second-quarter net profit, and said prospects for the rest of the year were healthy. U.K.-based Transvac Systems signed an agreement U.S.-based MH Systems to market the MHS Ballast Water Treatment system in Europe and other selected markets. Transvac will offer the technology through its recently restructured marine solutions division, Coldharbour. The MHS Balast Water Treatment System is currently undergoing final testing and certification prior to full commercial availability later this year. www.Coldharbourmarine.com BSM Installs GSM Blue Ocean Wireless said that Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Deutschland (BSMD), Hamburg will install the BOW GSM solution. Blue Ocean Wireless CEO, Robert Johnson said, "This represents another significant customer milestone for the Blue Ocean Wireless team." Rolls-Royce Wins Specialist Vessel Order Rolls-Royce has won a $33.4m follow-up order to design and equip a specialist well intervention vessel. The latest order, from Island Offshore, follows the successful delivery of the first well intervention vessel, Island Wellserver, in March this year. The new 130 m long UT 767CDL vessel, which will drill in ultra deep waters, offers single cabins for 97 crew members. As with the UT 767CD Island Wellserver, the vessel meets cruise ship standards for noise and vibration.The vessel, to be delivered in 2011, will be built at Aker Yards, Langsten, Norway. NASSCO Begins Construction of Third Product Carrier Ship General Dynamics NASSCO began construction of the third ship in its series of nine product carriers.
