consists of four sets of dual fuel diesel engines and two propulsion motors driving a single propeller through a reduction gear. The main generators are driven by dual fuel engines, capable of burning a combination of natural and forced boiloff gas or marine diesel oil as well. The engine room machinery is remotely controlled from the wheelhouse and the CCR. Unmanned operation of the dual fuel engines is available at sea. The machinery room is positioned right aft, and above this is a substantial accommodation block, separated from the machinery casing and funnel. The main engine selected for Flanders series is a B&W 6S60MC-C unit developing 13,560 kW MCR at 105 rpm, giving a service speed of 16.75 knots at 90% of that rating with a 15% sea margin allowed, driving a FP propeller. Electrical requirements are served by three diesel-alternator sets, each producing 1,360 kW, and steam is provided from a vertical watertube boiler with an output of 4,000 kg/h.

Flanders Liberty, built by DSME and delivered November 22, 2007, to Exmar Marine NV, Belgium, is an 84,000 cu. m. LPG Carrier, a fully refrigerated type with a cargo space divided into four independent tanks that are designed for a maximum pressure of 0.25 bar g and a minimum temperature of -50oC and a maximum cargo specific gravity of 0.61, having a single deck ship without a forecastle and a sunken mooring deck. The ship is constructed for the transportation of liquefied gases such as propane, butane and mixture of propane and butane, anhydrous ammonia. Each tank accommodates an independent and self-supporting prismatic cargo tanks.

Two 1,700 cu. m./hr. cargo pumps can be used to completely discharge each cargo tank within 12 hours after the tanks have been pre-cooled by LNG spray. The ship has a bunker capacity sufficient for the cruising of 13,000 nautical miles on fuel oil only. The bunker tanks are surrounded for its protection by the water ballast tanks. Design fatigue life of critical details in primary structure is minimum 40 years based on North Atlantic wave data.
