CAD/CAM fore support, to our shipyard clients. We are able to handover all of the information they need to continue into the detailed design and fabrication phase without interruption. This is a huge marketing advantage for us." "Information re-use is important to F&G, as new drilling unit designs are based upon, and improved upon lessons learned from the operation of earlier units," said Murphy. "AVEVA Marine's datacentric approach will allow us to continually evolve and refine our designs without having to start from scratch on each project. Lastly, AVEVA's commitment to forward- and backward-data compatibility means that we will be able to access and use the information we need for years going forward." The applications are also applied in Lloyd's Register's own approval process, thus streamlining the ship approval process considerably. Other applications based on the successful Manager platform have also been developed and updated. The revisions include, among others, applications for planning of ship painting, automation of planning the isolation of passenger vessels, reviews of offshore structures and for simulation of ship flooding. The new features of NAPA Steel, a system for ship structural design, contain tools for cost accounting, calculation of painting surface areas and functions for classification designs as well as considerable improvements to the user interface. The basic functionality of 3Dmodeling has also been improved by developing a new Geometry editor that offers a visual and straightforward way of modelling the ship's geometry. (SSI) launched its next-generation shipbuilding platform: ShipConstructor 2008, which purports to deliver a new standard in advanced AutoCAD-based, 3D prod- Aker Yards, Sener Enter Contract Aker Yards ASA entered into a contract with Sener Ingeniera y Sistemas S.A. for the implementation of FORAN System across the group's shipbuilding organization. FORAN is already operating successfully at seven sites of the group. Based on the experience using FORAN so far, Aker Yards has decided to extend the cooperation with Sener by making a FORAN Frame Contract for future investments into CAD/CAM shipbuilding solutions. Currently, Aker Yards owns more than 350 licenses of the main FORAN packages (Hull Structure and Outfitting). As a first consequence of this Frame Contract, FORAN is being implemented in Aker Yards, Promar, a Brazilian shipyard located in Niteroi (Rio de Janeiro). Services to be provided by Sener include installation, training as well as maintenance and support. The latest new feature introduced by Napa, developed in collaboration with Lloyd's Register (LR), is an application based on the Manager development platform. This application allows the designer to easily check that the ship complies with the Rules and Regulations concerning stability and damage stability already during the design stage. The Manager applications now developed include LR's expertise and interpretations concerning the Rules and Regulations for stability. They are October 2007 53
