Intergraph SmartMarine 3D Design Software
Intergraph last month introduced SmartMarine 3D, its next-generation software designed to streamline design processes, resulting in lower costs and faster delivery for the shipbuilding and offshore industries. The announcement was made in conjunction with the 13th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding , ICCAS 2007, in Portsmouth, U.K. According to the developer, SmartMarine -- previously known as IntelliShip -- offers improved modeling, detailing and manufacturing capability for offshore devices and ships for unrivaled productivity and user friendliness, coupling engineering, automatic drawings generation, production planning and manufacturing. "It's a next-generation, full 3D system," said Gerhard Sallinger, president, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine. "The new product branding from IntelliShip to SmartMarine reflects the investment in the solution by leading marine systems clients, such as Keppel FELS of Singapore, COSCO Shipyard Group of China or Grenland Group in Norway, to design ships and offshore devices more effectively." Originally derived from plant design solutions, Intergraph software has expanded and evolved to meet the needs of the world's leading shipbuilding and offshore companies and classification societies. Users such as Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) or the Odense Steel Shipyard Group have reduced engineering time, rework errors and material costs. Customers also foresee continued productivity improvements by using SmartMarine.

Friede & Goldman Selects AVEVA Marine
Friede & Goldman (F&G) selected AVEVA Marine to create intelligent 3D models of mobile offshore drilling and production units, with the goal of shortening design cycle time and improving information handover and communication with clients.
