Wrtsil Inaugurates Trieste Facilities
The Wrtsil investment project, which started last year at the Delivery Centre Trieste in Italy, is now complete. Wrtsil has invested $25m in a modern manufacturing concept to deliver higher quality, raise efficiency and to increase capacity for engine assembly and testing in Trieste, Italy. The new engine production facilities and new Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy Training Center were inaugurated in Trieste, in the presence of the Finnish ambassador in Italy, Pauli Mkel, Wrtsil's President & CEO, Ole Johansson, and Wrtsil management. "The new facilities will allow us to increase delivery volumes and obtain considerably higher quality and delivery accuracy. This in turn will be reflected in a more competitive cost structure," said Sergio Razeto, Vice President, Delivery Centre Trieste & President of Wrtsil Italia. "The competitiveness of European industry requires us to develop our manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and flexibility. An essential aspect of the supply chain is a close cooperation with our partners. This is also a logistical challenge. The aim of our investment was to design a factory that meets these challenges while also improving customer service," said Ole Johansson, President & CEO of Wrtsil Corporation.
Ole Johansson, President and CEO of Wrtsil Corporation, Tage Blomberg, Group Vice President of Wrtsil Services, Sergio Razeto, President of Wrtsil in Italy and Lars Hellberg, Group Vice President of Wrtsil Industrial Operations were all present at the inauguration of the new modern facilities for the Wrtsil Delivery Centre Trieste, Italy.

Proteus, sailed into New York Harbor prior to embarking on its One Ocean mission through America's national marine sanctuaries. The One Ocean mission is designed to build international alliances and strengthen ties between marine protected areas around the world by using advanced technology to promote better stewardship of the world's oceans. Proteus, the first full-size WAM-V (Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel), developed by Marine Advanced Research, Inc., recently completed a tour through Italy's Marine Protected Areas, where the One Ocean mission began in June. Proteus was aptly named after the ancient sea-god who was the guardian of all marine life and capable of changing shape and assuming many forms. This ultra-light, flexible catamaran vessel practically skims across the waves and has a modular design allowing for a multitude of applications, such as rescue missions, research and ocean exploration. It is 100 ft. long, 50ft. wide and is highly stable and maneuverable with the ability to cross oceans.
